Wuhan is the largest city in central China and a long-established centre of medical education. Its principal hospitals are attached to Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Wuhan University and act as tertiary referral centres for Hubei and surrounding provinces.
Wuhan's healthcare is dominated by very large public teaching hospitals with broad specialist coverage — including oncology, cardiology, neurosurgery, transplantation and critical care — alongside district hospitals and a modest private sector. Patient volumes are high and appointments are usually made through hospital apps or registration desks in Mandarin.
