Xi'an is the largest city in north-west China and the region's principal medical centre. Its major hospitals are affiliated with Air Force Medical University and Xi'an Jiaotong University and provide tertiary care for Shaanxi and neighbouring provinces.
Xi'an's healthcare capacity is concentrated in a small number of very large teaching hospitals with strong surgical, oncology, cardiology and digestive disease departments. Provision is predominantly public, with a limited private clinic sector. Services are delivered in Mandarin, so interpretation should be arranged in advance.
