Before you arrive
Most programmes ask you to fast for eight to ten hours. Water is usually permitted. Bring identification, a list of medication and any recent test results.
During the visit
Screening departments run tests in sequence to minimise waiting. Fasting samples are collected first, followed by imaging, ultrasound and functional tests such as an ECG. Light refreshments are usually offered once fasting tests are complete.
Afterwards
Some findings are available the same day; laboratory and imaging reports typically follow within a few working days. A good programme includes a consultation to explain what the results mean and whether any further investigation is advised. A screening result is not a diagnosis, and any abnormal finding should be reviewed by a qualified clinician.
